Dr. Robert Clarke is a Professor of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology & Biophysics and the Executive Director of The Hormel Institute at the University of Minnesota (Austin, MN). He also holds the I.J. Holton Chair in Cancer Research. He received his PhD and DSc degrees from the Queen’s University of Belfast (Northern Ireland) and completed his postdoctoral training at the National Cancer Institute (Bethesda, MD). He served as a both member and Chair of the NIH study section Basic Mechanisms of Cancer Therapeutics; previously he had served as Chair of the Basic Science study section for the NIH National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (now the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health). Dr. Clarke has also chaired multiple study sections for the US Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program. He is an Associate Editor-in-Chief for Breast Cancer: Targets and Therapy and an Associate Editor for Endocrine-Related Cancer, Frontiers in Pharmacology (Anticancer-Drugs), and Annals of Medicine (Oncology). He also serves as a member of the editorial boards of several international peer review journals including Cancer Research (Member, 2023-date; Senior Editor, 2007-2023, Associate Editor, 2001-2007) and Clinical Cancer Research. As a cancer integrative and systems biologist, his research includes the use of high throughput omic technologies and the development and application of novel bioinformatics and mathematical tools in a systems/integrative biology-based approach to studying the regulation of cellular signaling in the endocrine control of breast cancer cell fate and acquired resistance to both endocrine and cytotoxic chemotherapies.
